ARE's 100-year history reflects the picture of modernisation in the world. The company started with electricity, just as the lightbulb entered homes and workplaces across Finland and elsewhere. Electric light was then followed by the other modern technical building services - plumbing, central heating, and air conditioning.
Over the last century in some new buildings today, the technical building services within are more valuable than the structure containing them.
The book follows the modernisation of Finland and beyond from the perspective of ARE's history - showing how this family company and the field of technical building services have transformed our built environment over the last 100 years.
