Berliner Bagatelle for wind quintet - Score and parts
Kalevi Aho wrote the hilarious, virtuosic and compact "Berliner Bagatelle" in winter 2018 at the request of the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet as a sort of concert encore. In the introduction, the oboe plays a melody built from the musical letters in ‘Berliner Philharmonisches Bläserquintett'. Then follows a quick, rhythmically capricious main section in which each of the players in turn presents a brief solo made up of the musical letters of his or her name. Lasting five minutes, the piece ends with a brief, rollicking coda.
