Laevas lauldakse / Singing aboard Ship
Laevas lauldakse (Singing Aboard Ship) is an Ingrian-Finnish folk song and ballad. In this hypnotic love song we hear tragic overtones which are connected with historical circumstances: young men in the small village of Rappula were taken to do military servie, while girls stayed behing, weeping on the shore. The original form of the song has been fully preserved. It represents the alteration of a lead singer and chorus, typical of Balto-Finnic folk songs. Tormis has, however, added a suitable background - emotional commentaries and dramatical dynamics.
