Rudolf Steiner piti kansainvälisessä filosofikongressissa Bolognassa 1911 esitelmän, jossa hän tuo erittäin selkeällä ja modernilla tavalla esiin kehittämäänsä tiedostamismenetelmää ja sen eri tasoja imaginaatiota, inspiraatiota ja intuitiota. Samalla hän suhteuttaa luomansa hengentieteen metodin aikansa filosofiseen kontekstiin. Hän puhuu mm. ajattelun autonomiasta suhteessa aivotoimintaan.
