Esa Piironen : Steel Images

A visually striking and unique book, published in honor of the Finish Constructional Steelwork Association's 30th Anniversary. Steel Images is an illustrated history of Finnish steelwork expertise and the works featured are extremely varied. What is immediately obvious is that steel construction in Finland has had an international flavor from the very beginning. Only 15 years ago it would have been difficult to find examples of the use of steel in architecture in Helsinki, but today that situation is dramatically different. On new construction sites visually layered images of steel are everywhere to be seen. Works include Finnish Science Center, Vantaa; Nokia House, Espoo; Finnish Embassy, Washington DC; McDonalds Headquarters, Helsinki; Finnair Stadium, Helsinki; and there is a list of winners of the Finnish Steel Construction Awards from 1980 to 2000.
